Postrank.com end of life, sunset, off the radar, Dot Gone
UPDATE: 8-10-2012 - Google Purchased this project and then canned it. Another failed project but good because it was not good to use in the first place. If they asked we all might have saved them a few bucks.
SEO people be sure not to block the postrank/2.0+(postrank.com;+1+subscribers) spider. We all saw it coming and this week saw it finally become a 404 page not found on Google.
http://www.postrank.com/ actually as of May 1, 2012 postrank.com is nothing more than a memory and just over 10 months ago it was the buzz around the SEO market.
I remember writing in a couple of SEO forums about the new postrank.com site that was something of a Google project. Like my favorite SideWiki crash and out of control postrank.com ended it's short dot.com life May 1, 2012.
I wonder if it reached any of it's goals?
Well, here's a copy of the article I wrote just over 10 months ago advising not to block by useragent this postrank/2.0+.
First Print: Date: 7-11-2011
SEO people be sure not to block the postrank/2.0+(postrank.com;+1+subscribers) spider
postrank/2.0+(postrank.com;+1+subscribers) spider has been found on the amazonaws.com network. Many webmasters ban full blocks from this network due to the amount of spam produced. It's time to look over a few things and identify what can actually help.
If you don't know what PostRank.com is, does, and is going to be doing with Google you might want to google search PostRank acquisition by Google. (Google acquires PostRank)
Here's the UserAgent:
Here's the Network information I collected from the bot a few minutes ago.
IP address: 220.127.116.11
Host name: ec2-50-16-86-196.compute-1.amazonaws.com
The interesting thing is the +1+subscribers which most of you webmastertool users know is Googles Like social entry.
If Google does what they are talking about it might be time to drop those network bans on Amazonaws.com hosts.
Well not all the blocked IP ranges but you might look to start tracking this postrank bot to make sure it's not being denied access.
It appears to be a simple Quality bot that if I know Google will increase your page worth mucho. Wonder when the Fake +1 clicks will start? I'll give the SEO India guys a couple of days before they start charging +1 Google clicks.
The Page Rank to Content quality might offer better results than a few
hundred spam attempts each month or day.
I'll do my part and send a message to the Google Webmastertool team about the network PostRank is using.
(I'm guessing that will go over as well as my request to purchase Google Stock at $0.99 per share. )
End of old article
