Mobile Devices and Mobile Offices
Mobile devices will soon be the most widely used device to collect data and to publish data.
The Smartphone or Mobile Device is a perfect "Data Terminal" by design and should the day come that I can build a full Hyper-V server with a dual boot HTC then I'll say it can actually do more.
Data Transfer is Text, Email, Downloading applications, using applications to send and receive information.
The Dumb Terminal now has a brain!
When you start your planning for IT services for the next 4 to 5 years be sure to think about your mobile office and what we have on the market today.
Your Mobile device if it has the WiFi Video features can sync to any HD TV or Monitor with a simple $99 device.
You can purchase a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
Now you have converted your Smartphone or mobile device into a computer in its basic form.
The issue is applications which require serious space. SanDisk is working on a 2TB micro SD card that should have the transfer rate of a fast hard drive but it's the memory we need to pop those applications to the front fast.
With WiFi you can run your smartphone as a terminal and then use an application server for everything your phone cannot do.
Nice thing about technology is you can share or own your own equipment.
I have a server running 12 Virtual offices 2 of which are used for training and demos.
I'm starting early bridging the gap between mobile devices and the PC world without the bulky box.
Now, this only applies to about 24% of my current visitors based on device useage. More than 70 top mobile devices can surf and run the applications from the server just fine.
Corporate and Business offices will have completely different needs.
If Encryption is required or other special applications you might have more years of waiting.
From the testing I've completed it seems Sales, Software Vendors, Data processing is ready to go today online in a virtual world.
Nice thing is you have more choices than you might think. I'll be promoting the "Home Servers" type of environment for those that can manage the IT services or would like remote management.
Shared Services which I offer are great because they lower the cost today but if you read the cost of servers you'll find that over 5 years you might have a better investment purchasing the equipment. It depends on how many people you will need to give access to the service.
I have a private cloud website that will explain in more detail what you can do today and what to expect down the road.
We will soon be switching to Mobile Devices more than laptops but it depends on applications and security needs.
You might not know this but out of China we can pick up some great WiFi devices that don't work with our Cellular carriers but can be the mobile terminal you need.
More later on this subject.
