The issues of software compatibility started showing up.

Office XP / 2002 Pro comes with Outlook that had enough issues on its own at times I wondered why I even used the software. But now, due to security issues and the fact Microsoft doesn't support this software with new patches Office XP and Office 2002 are about to end up in the same pile of software as did Office 97 and Office 2000.

Everything else in the office package seems to work just fine. So instead of running out and loading a very bloated Office 2010 into your old and slow system let's examine the options or replacements for Office XP / 2002 Outlook.

A good combination is Outlook 2003. If you have a copy that version of Outlook actually works very well with Windows 7 on older computer systems.

I've also seen people adding Microsoft Live Essentials for email and run the other office applications as normal.

Live Essentials is offered free from Microsoft and if I recall, replaced the old Outlook Express email client.
