Have you noticed how slow it is at times to browse using Windows Explorer view when you have mapped drives and have each of them set to login? The scripts to make drives connect are numerous. Which login drive connection script works best?

I can't answer the last question, Which is Best? But I can say each and every system and network I have worked with has slight changes that make things better.

Example, today between setting up a NAS unit with a few shares I was writing a new drive connection script for a client.

The problem isn't creating the drive connection. It's remembering where it is and what it connects to.

You can setup SENDTO: quick links all day and forget you have them a month from now.

The idea I have is to make a simple login that is manual and only connects when you need it. Then it will popup with the virtual folder name and ask you if you would like to open it now.

Sure, NET USE .... Mapped Drives .... \\shares all work great but today we are going ahead of the pack by going back to the basics.

FTP: you know it, I know it but do they know it?

Cloud Backup = FTP Backup what's the difference? You just want to transfer files using a protocol designed to transfer files. ECHO FTP "File Tranfer Protocol".

I'll be listing every method you can think of regarding connecting to a network drive or share. But for now, I have one little setup that might interest a few of you remote access folder access and cloud access users.

FTP Nethood Display shows linked folders not mapped foldersLink your drives without mapping. (Sort of having the map but not being connected until you need it.)

Basically you don't connect to the FTP / Cloud storage folder until you actually click on the shortcut link as the image to the left shows.

The script I setup is a combination of scripts and you can modify it to fit your network needs.

To quickly find what's running under the Net Hood from the RUN or Search line type Nethood.

Like I said, I'll be adding many different ways of connecting to a shared drive or folder. The key is to keep it simple for the person using the script each day. And to save time.

Scripts for Drive Clouding I mean Drive Mapping:

1. Do you want to connect and open the target location?

If you have a script DO NOT paste the code in the comments box below. Paste a link to the txt version online.
