My Linksys Wireless router, connection issues, connects but not surfing, not detected. Troubleshooting your Linksys Wireless router made easy. Before paying someone to show you the red button and the 10 to 20 second time you need to hold it let us help you with the basics of troubleshoot wireless routers from Linksys.

Wireless Network Connections

Before you begin and before you drop yourself from the internet by resetting your router that you are currently connected with let's get a pad of paper and write down a few notes.

Admin Console IP: 196.168.1.1 (Others are can be found by using a simple ipconfig from the cmd line)

Usernames and Passwords: Admin Admin or Admin Default or Admin and blank for the password. This works on many wireless routers.

Wireless routers often need resetting if they are not self healing.

It's not a bad idea to reset your router especially if you use the internal firewall setup.

The best method is to save your configuration file to a computer connected directly via cable to your wireless router. If not then the computer that is most dependable should have the configuration file saved.

Next you need to set the administrators password in the unit. Don't let your neighbors kids setup your router by allowing them login over your wireless access point. Most wireless routers have "Administration over Wireless" and Administration over LAN" or cable. It's best to setup only the cable connection internal LAN for admin because then you know only a directly connected computer can configure your system.

If you are looking for screen shots visit your wireless manufacturers setup page.
