How to Setup AVG Anti-Virus Resident Shied Advanced Settings

What is the Resident Shield?

This is the active anti-virus program that is running as a program protecting your as your browse your computer or surf the web.

The Resident Shield is the program that will alert you if you visit a website that places a virus in your temporary internet folder.

The default settings for AVG do not include your Media files at all.
So this default setting will overlook some of your infected media files once they are "Accidentally" downloaded to your shared limewire or media file folder.

The Extensions listed are good but do not cover everything and actually wouldn't protect you from older viruses such as NIMDa.

What we what here is to setup our Active Resident Shield with the following settings.

Scan All Files (Selected)

Exceptions should be empty unless you have specific files that you do not what scanned.

Updating: This guide was setup for version 9. I'll be updating it to 2012 soon and will show as best as I can why different settings help prevent virus infections even better.
