I'm sure by now you have read articles and posts about people using the UserAgent GTB6 to track where "Might Be" a SideWiki comment.

If you think tracking by the UserAgent is going to help you discover your SideWiki Comments, , , You are wrong.

Sure you will be able to track those that are Honest or just don't know how to edit the registry.
But the posts you most likely need to find are those from from another group. The Comment Spammers Group.

GTB6 in the UserAgent.

At best you can create a session log that emails you a bunch of pages you need to manually check.

But that's not the real pit falls to using a UserAgent tracking system.
The Biggest issue you should think about is WHO is going to be posting Spam and Who is going to be posting comments.

For those that don't want people tracking them by their Google Toolbar.
>Start > Run > RegEdit
Search for GTB6
Delete the Entry
(It will be in this section HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent)
Or you can be creative and change the GTB6 to 1234, your name, initials whatever your heart desires.

You'll see the GTB6 in the registry.

Once you delete the registry entry sites that monitor by UserAgent will no longer see you as a Google SideWiki Toolbar user.

But you will have all the features of the Toolbar just not the tracking part in your browsers useragent.

Try it out, feel free to post your SideWiki Test Comments here.

Tracking is much more than sending an email with the page name a visitor viewed.
Let's say you have 6 websites and several of them have more than 1,000,000 pages.
How do you find that SideWiki post on page 99,997 ?
Even if you know how to monitor like I do, how will you handle the spam posted on Blogs, Facebook and Twitter that is linked into your site from the SideWiki Comment that was posted?

I think Google just created a new Industry. Just like the SEO, SEM markets.
I'm thinking this will be called SWM short for SideWiki Monitoring.

Sorry I only talked about how it just doesn't work.
Now I should have posted the code for those that would like to try it.

Or You could add the API from XtremeComputer.Com and let us help you monitor
not only SideWiki Posts but Hackers and Spammers all with the same API>

Not a bad idea if you are a business owner and only want to read emails that know a comment
was posted not emails that say "There Could Be a Comment Posted."

It's about how much time and how you would like to control what happens in your websites.

Learn the true costs of having a website built for you. SEO work costs and Webmaster Expenses Posted - 11/02/2009 :  2:26:24 PM  Show Profile  Visit XCTech's Homepage  Reply with Quote
Google Toolbar was updated to version 6.3

What this means is they UserAgent has been once again added to your registry and will show up in the UserAgent.

GTB6.3 is actually version 6.3.911.1819 but that really isn't important. Only the GTB6.3 will display in your UserAgent.

Nice Going Google!

They didn't place the UserAgent back in where it was first reported in the OP here.

But they did place it here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent\Post Platform

Name: GTB6.3

Once again Right Click and Delete the GTB6.3.

Until the Next Update I'm guessing you are set to go.

This will save webmasters allot of time by not getting emails for every page you visit with your Google SideWiki Comment Tool loaded.
