Issue: Internet Explorer pops up "Work Offline Try Again" message.

From IE4 to IE8 this issue seems to be one of those setup problems where the browser attempts to identify the default.

Here's what you should do.
This is a suggestion and because I'll have you in your registry you should follow the instructions.

Windows XP and I believe Vista is the same.
1. Click on Start
2. Click Run
3. Type: regedit
4. Click OK
5. Click the "+" sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
6. Click the "+" sign next to SOFTWARE
7. Click the "+" sign next to Microsoft
8. Click the "+" sign next to Windows
9. Click the "+" sign next to CurrentVersion
10 Click the "+" sign next to WebCheck

The full path will look like this.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WebCheck

Click from the left column the word WebCheck.
To the right or in the box to the right you will see.

(Default) REG_SZ (Value not set)
LoadLCE REG_SZ auto
LoadSens REG_SZ auto

If "LoadSens"="auto" "LoadLCE"="auto" are not both auto
double click on the one that is not auto and change the value to auto.

Once you have finished close out the Regedit tree by going back up and clicking the "-" signs.

Close Regedit.
Close Internet Explorer
Restart Internet Explorer

Depending on your operating system you might have to reboot.
XP and Vista shouldn't require a reboot but Windows 2000, ME, 98SE and older may require a reboot.

NOTES: Just in case you need to read more:

You should set the LoadSens and LoadLCE to auto.
If you are missing one or both of the values follow along:

Right click the folder WebCheck
Left Click New String Value
Rename the New Value #1 to LoadSens
Right click on LoadSens and add Value data: auto

Repeat the same for LoadLCE

Some have questioned if it is really necessary to delete the loadwc.exe file.
I personally have seen nothing change other than it is a part of the fix.
The loadwc.exe seems to be for your setup of IE.
You don’t have to delete it from \Windows\System if you don’t feel like it.
You can rename it to something else.
Then if something doesn’t work for out for you this file can be named back.
If you do have problems with the loadwc.exe and see errors I would like to know them since this fix has been valid for over 5 years and not a single report or issues regarding deleting the loadwc.exe file.

The Work Offline Try Again issue is one of the oldest IE issues we know of and have always found methods of correcting the problem.

We are thinking about moving this fix to our Technical Articles Section if it appears to be 100% perfect for the Work Offline Try Again IE problem.
